Obligatory “about me” page

I put food on the table by being an entrepreneur and investor (and usually microwaving it

first).  I’ve tasted success as a investor, and known failure as an entrepreneur.  The old cliche of being “more of a big picture kinda guy” fits me pretty well, as day to day management isn’t really my strong suit.

I live in the northeastern portion of the United States with my two dogs.  I am the stereo-typical “northeast liberal” and I’m damn proud of it.  People in my life are probably pretty tired of me going on about universal healthcare, or education reform, or sensible gun control, gay marriage, decriminalization, the fundamental right to privacy, absolute freedom of speech, the total separation of church and state and all of that other stuff.  I believe in a government of laws and principals, not of men, and it shows almost every time I open my mouth.

I’m a night owl, so if I see the sunrise it means I haven’t gone to bed yet.  TiVo is the great enabler of that horrible habit.  I’m a voracious consumer of media with a wall full of books, cabinets full of movies and a hard disk full of music.  On my shelves you’ll find everything from graphic novels to treatises on economic theory to encyclopedias on religion and philosophy and everything in between.  My movie collection has the full spectrum from old classics like Dr. Strangelove to fratboy comedies like Van Wilder.  Most of the TV I watch is sports and news, although I do mix in a few of the better TV shows.  Thankfully I think I’ve finally outgrown my taste for reality TV, although I do have the occasional short-term relapse.

What you’ll find on this site is a window to my world, a stream of consciousness, and my unvarnished opinion on whatever the hell I want to talk about.  You can browse my media collection, look over my shoulder at some of the web pages that I find interesting each day, or just sit there and nod your head as I go off on a rant.  This site also acts as the central hub of my online presence so there will be links to sites that I’m active on, and if you don’t see the link here it means I’m not on it.

As the youngsters say these days “mad props” go to Matt and Kyle, the two most talented and creative designers I’ve ever had the pleasure of hiring. Matt handled all the look and feel, and HTML stuff and Kyle came up with the brilliant modern take on the ancient Cummings family crest.  Also, great thanks goes out to my “server guru” Kit, who keeps this thing running smoothly.
